Laguna Radio, Inc., known as K X R N-LP or K X F M 104.7, was established on October 15, 2012. This nonprofit radio station has been delivering entertainment and community-focused content to the Laguna Beach community for more than 12 years from its Pearl Street studios on Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach. K X F M operates as a 100-watt Low Power F M licensed broadcast radio station, following the guidelines and requirements of the FCC. This low-power licensed FCC program was established to encourage community-focused programming by local non-commercial organizations.
K X F M's signal covers areas including Laguna Beach, Newport Coast, parts of Corona Del Mar, most of Laguna Canyon, and sections of Laguna Niguel and Dana Point. While our main emphasis is on Laguna Beach, we also have an internet stream accessible through our website and mobile app, allowing us to connect with a global audience and expose the Laguna Beach community to a wider demographic. Our diverse music collection enables us to offer music, interviews, live in-studio performances, weather and surf updates, and engaging discussions. We frequently live-stream our content on social media platforms and provide podcasts for download on major distribution services and our website.
Laguna Beach’s sole terrestrial wireless broadcast radio station, KX FM, is well-equipped to offer a consistent source of locally centered communication during emergencies. It possesses Emergency Alert System (EAS) capabilities designed to swiftly share vital information in critical situations. This distinguishes it from online streams, as the FCC has determined extending these capabilities to alternative content distribution systems to be technically unfeasible.
K X F M in Laguna Beach supports local non-profits both on and off the air. We also nurture future broadcasters through radio camps, teaching them about radio station operations and assisting with content creation. Several former radio camp attendees, including several local high school students, now host their own shows.
K X F M is operated solely by local volunteers who are passionate about community radio. Their goal is to preserve this broadcast radio station as a distinctive service for and by the residents of Laguna Beach.
